Britain's young world champion defends her title in style — and calls out a legend

Britain's young world champion produced a dominant defence of her title at the Manchester Arena last night, stopping her opponent in the eighth round of a fight that few seasoned observers had given her serious competition for.

Her post-fight interview, however, produced the bigger headline: a direct callout of a legendary American champion widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer of her generation.

The proposed bout, if it could be made, would be the most commercially significant fight in the women's division to date, with venues in both London and Las Vegas already understood to be expressing interest.

The American champion has, so far, not publicly responded — but her promoter has confirmed they have 'taken the call'.

Negotiations, if they happen, are expected to be lengthy and complex.
