Kitchen renovation costs have doubled in five years — and Londoners are paying the most
New survey lays bare the regional gulf in home improvement pricing.
The average cost of a full kitchen renovation in the United Kingdom has more than doubled in just five years, with London homeowners now paying an average of £34,800 — almost twice the figure recorded in 2021.
The findings, drawn from a survey of more than 11,000 completed projects, reveal a striking regional divide. The same specification of kitchen costs an average of £19,400 in the North East and £22,100 in Yorkshire.

Labour costs, materials inflation and lingering supply-chain pressures from the post-pandemic period all contributed, though installers say the biggest single factor has been the soaring price of cabinetry.
The survey also notes a clear shift in consumer behaviour: more homeowners are now choosing to retain existing carcasses and replace only the doors and worktops — a trend likely to continue.
Industry forecasters expect prices to stabilise, though not fall, by the end of next year.
