RHS Chelsea show garden hides a secret — and judges only spotted it on day three
A meticulously planted mushroom installation went unnoticed for 48 hours.
One of this year's most talked-about RHS Chelsea show gardens contained a small but exquisite secret which went entirely unnoticed by judges for the first 48 hours of the festival.
Tucked beneath a fallen log at the rear of the woodland-themed display, the designer had planted a tiny installation of foraged-style mushrooms arranged in the precise pattern of the constellation Orion.
The detail was eventually spotted on day three by a junior horticulturist on her hands and knees, and was later cited by judges as 'the kind of considered intimacy this category needs more of'.
The garden ultimately took silver-gilt, narrowly missing gold, with one panellist describing it as 'the most quietly virtuosic plot at the show'.
